Hey there,
In this blog post I want to talk about how I lose motivation from time to time and about how lucky I feel to rediscover my motivation! This post is about cryothane and I have a few updates.
Well what happened? I as always lost my motivation to create again. This happens a lot. I have been trying to create games since forever now. And as soon as the scope gets bigger I feel this thing that makes me want to give up or redo the entire thing. Which is not a good thing if you actually want to finish projects! I've been kind of looking for motivation and to reduce stress. So instead of setting a date for cryothane early stuff I now will do it whenever I feel like I have something with a bit of gameplay :)
So I hope I am not the only one with this issue. Like everyone loses motivation from time to time right? So here are some things I do when I lose motivation.
Took a break.
I took a break from making cryothane and I wanted to look at other types of games. Which was fun to create a concept for. So I made this quick little game which I might expand upon and release this year. Its a puzzle game where you need to find clues to unlock different areas. Lets say you find part of a note and you need to find 3 other parts to decode the padlock on the door. Fun idea?
Find out what is blocking you from wanting to continue.
I found out that creating this complex inventory system with a bunch of types of items and overthinking interaction was stopping me from creating other things. So I tried to simplify it. I made the inventory more of an item collector. So having weapons may just be a static thing. You can pickup 2 swap-able weapons 1 standard weapon that recharges with your suits energy and you have a standard of 3 tools. Being able to collect items which you could scrap and repair / craft upgrades with would be a great use for an inventory. I would love to make it so you can horde weapons and I may make some sort of scanner so you can unlock different weapons in your vehicle. That would be a great progression in the game as you explore and find more difficult power stations.
Learned new things.
By learning new things you can find solutions / other ways of doing things. Making it interesting to continue again. Some of the things I have learned are node based scripts. So each node can have its own script (to avoid 1 script doing everything).
Anyways hope it was a decent read. I hope I can show off some new 3d models when I get them ready. I was thinking of doing minimal / pixel art textures. Might even do blocky arms ala minceraft!
Good bye!
